As the name suggests, the ensemble specialized in baroque music is based at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and is sponsored by the Monegasque princely court. Founded in 2016, the initiator of the ensemble is none other than mezzo soprano star Cecilia Bartoli, who not only regularly enjoys great success in today’s opera world as an outstanding baroque singer, but also demonstrates her skills backstage by directing the Salzburg Whitsun Festival. The ensemble Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco has dedicated itself entirely to the historical performance practice of the music of the 17th and 18th centuries and, in addition to today’s standard baroque repertoire, also presents rare or forgotten musical rarities on stage. Since its successful premiere in 2016, the ensemble has toured regularly, including on the stages of the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Philharmonie de Paris and many others; in Germany, the ensemble is a frequent guest at the Berlin Philharmonic, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg or the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, among others.
